CAD Viewer: open drawings and 3D models in your browser
Drop a drawing or a model and the viewer works out the format and opens it. DWG, DXF, JWW (Jw_cad) and DWFx drawings open in 2D: switch between model space and layouts, turn layers on and off, measure and save as PDF. RVT, RFA and IFC building models, STEP parts and assemblies, SketchUp SKP files and FBX, OBJ, STL, glTF and 3DS files open in 3D: orbit, read properties, measure and cut sections. It is read only, so the original never changes, and the file is read only inside this browser.
How to open a CAD file
- 1
Open the file
Drop the file anywhere on the page or press Open File. The format is recognised from the file contents, not the extension. A large model can take from a few seconds to a few tens of seconds, and a progress bar shows how far it has got. No file at hand? Pick a format under "Try a sample".
- 2
Drawings open in 2D
For DWG, DXF and DWFx, pick Model or a layout in the tabs at the bottom and switch layers in the list on the right. Model space opens on a dark background, as CAD programs show it; the sun button switches to light. Drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom.
- 3
Models open in 3D
Left drag to orbit, right drag to pan, scroll to zoom. The browser on the left switches storeys and categories (IFC classes, layers, SketchUp tags, materials) on and off, STEP files get an assembly tree to switch parts and subassemblies, and clicking an element shows its properties on the right. On a phone every tool is under the Tools button.
- 4
Measure, cut and save
The ruler (M) measures distances. In 3D you also get Section (X), Section box (B), Explode (E), Walk (W) and Notes (N). Save drawing sheets as PDF, PNG or SVG, the 3D view as PNG, and RVT tables as CSV or XLSX.
What this viewer does
Formats it opens
Use it when a file arrives and you have no program for it, your version is too old, or you only need a quick look. For each format we list what works and what does not yet.
| Format | What opens | Not yet |
|---|---|---|
| DWG | R2000 up to the 2018 format and later. Model space and layouts, layers as saved (off layers stay off), lines, arcs, splines, hatches, text, blocks, dimensions, leaders and model space inside viewports | R12 and older, password protected drawings, 3D solids (ACIS), external references, raster images, tables. R13 and R14 are untested for lack of public files |
| DXF | R10 to the 2018 format, ASCII and binary, old Korean, Japanese and Chinese code pages. Files made of 3D faces open in 3D | 3D solids (ACIS), external references, raster images (frame only), proxy graphics |
| JWW | Jw_cad .jww (data versions 3.51 to 7.00). Layer groups and layers (as switched in the file, with each group's scale), lines, circles, arcs, ellipses, points, text, solids, dimensions and blocks, with the file's pen colours and line types. Construction lines start hidden, as in a Jw_cad print | Jw_cad for DOS .jwc files, embedded images, 2.5D data, vertical text (shown horizontal and rotated) |
| DWFx | 2D sheets: lines, fills, text, PNG and JPEG images | Classic .dwf (W2D), 3D sections inside DWFx |
| RVT, RFA | Building models and families in 3D: levels, categories, views, sheets, families, material colours, realistic view, sheet drawings, table export | Versions before 2022 may not open (2021 families did). Dimensions and schedules are not drawn on sheets yet |
| IFC | IFC2X3, IFC4, IFC4X3 and .ifczip. Storeys, IFC classes, property sets and quantities, colours and transparency from the file | Road and rail alignment geometry, textures, 2D annotations. Spaces (IfcSpace) are hidden |
| STEP | AP203, AP214 and AP242 .step, .stp and .stpz. Parts and assemblies, the assembly tree, smooth curved surfaces with their B-rep edges, colours from the file | PMI (annotations such as dimensions and tolerances) is not shown. Assemblies that reference other files load only the geometry inside this file. Colour overrides set in an assembly show the part colour |
| SKP | SketchUp 8 to 2026 files. Groups and components, tags (with their visibility), material colours and transparency, visible edges | Texture images are shown as their material colour only. Scenes, dimensions, text, section planes, guides and styles are not drawn. Versions 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025 are untested for lack of public files |
| FBX | Binary and ASCII FBX 7.x (6.1 as far as it goes), node tree, material colours | Animation (the rest pose is shown), texture images |
| OBJ | Groups, objects, parts grouped by material name, vertex colours | Colours from the separate .mtl file (parts are grey), textures |
| STL | ASCII and binary, several solids, face colours | STL stores no units, so the size is guessed (noted in the Model tab) |
| glTF, GLB | glTF 2.0 .glb and .gltf with embedded data, node tree, material colours, realistic view | A .gltf pointing to an external .bin, Draco and meshopt compression, texture images, glTF 1.0 |
| 3DS | Meshes, material colours and transparency, object names | Animation, lights, cameras, texture images |
The tools at a glance
Lengths are shown in metres or millimetres and areas in square metres. Hiding, colours, explode and moved parts only change the screen, never the file.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| 2D drawings | Sheet tabs (model and layouts), layer switches with colour swatches, dark or light background (colour 7 flips between white and black), distance measuring that snaps to line ends and circle centres (for JWW also the real length at the layer group scale), text search, and saving the sheet as PDF, PNG or SVG. Drawings with hundreds of thousands of lines still pan and zoom smoothly |
| 3D view | Orbit, pan, zoom, previous and next view, fit all, perspective or orthographic, top, front, back, side and 3D views, shaded, edges, hidden line, wireframe, X-ray, and a realistic view where the file has materials |
| Browser | Storeys (levels), categories (RVT categories, IFC classes, layers or materials) and a model tree. Switch them on and off and colour them. RVT files also list views, sheets and families |
| Find and select | Search by name, type, category or ID. Box select, then hide, isolate, colour or show the selection in the tree |
| Measure and section | Point to point distance with X, Y and Z differences, edge length, angle and area. Section plane, section box, and a box around the selection |
| Explode, walk, notes | Lift storeys apart or spread parts from the centre, stand on a floor and walk, pin notes to the model and save views |
| Properties | Category, type, storey and size of the selected element. For IFC, property sets (Psets) and quantities (Qtos), grouped |
| Shortcuts | Single-key and two-letter shortcuts (HH hide, HI isolate, ZA zoom all, SB section box and more). Press ? for the full list |
Textures and sample credits
An .rvt file only stores the name, size and colour of each material’s texture images, not the images themselves. So the realistic view picks a similar generic texture from our own set by material name. Patterns and colours can differ from the original renderings.
Texture credits: CC0 textures from Poly Haven (polyhaven.com) and ambientCG (ambientcg.com), reduced in size and served from this site.
Sample credits: the RVT school is "FRBSkole ARC HVAC Simplified" by Ali Kücükavci (zenodo.org/records/7704836, CC BY 4.0); the DWG and IFC are from "Barraca Valenciana de Llauradors" by Òscar Selfa (doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14293897, CC BY 4.0); the DXF is from "The ZSW HyFaB Generic Stack" by ZSW (doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14223364, CC BY 4.0); the STEP part is NIST MBE PMI test case CTC-02 (US government work, public domain); the STEP assembly is "RoboKrill" by Oliveira Santos, Cuenca-Jiménez, Gomez-Valdez et al. (zenodo.org/records/5944187, CC BY 4.0); the SKP is "Kubespill" by Melih Turgut and Candaş Uygan (zenodo.org/records/19401444, CC BY 4.0); the JWW is "Steel fabrication standard drawing No.1" by the City of Kobe (Source: City of Kobe website (https://www.city.kobe.lg.jp/a31253/kurashi/machizukuri/institution/kentikugikan/tokkishiyousyo_eizen.html), City of Kobe website terms of use); the FBX, OBJ and glTF are by Kenney (kenney.nl, CC0); the STL and 3DS are from NASA 3D Resources (published without copyright). All are used unchanged. NIST and NASA are not affiliated with this site and do not endorse it.
Your file stays on your device
Design files often must not leave the company. This viewer brings the code that reads the file into your browser and runs it on your device. Large files are read in the background so the page stays responsive, and 3D is drawn by your own graphics chip.
Every reader is our own code, written for this site. No conversion server or cloud service from another company is involved. Notes and saved views are kept in this browser only, per file.
What it does not do yet
It is read only. It does not edit drawings or models or save them back to their original format.
RVT sheets show what could be read from the file, such as the title block, text and tags, while the model lines inside each view are drawn here by cutting the 3D model. Hatching, hidden lines and line weights can therefore differ from the original drawing.
Texture images in 3D files are not applied yet; parts are painted with their material colours. A very large model can run out of memory on a phone, so a computer is the better choice for those.
Common questions
Which files can it open?+
DWG, DXF, Jw_cad JWW and DWFx drawings, RVT, RFA and IFC building models, STEP parts and assemblies, SketchUp (SKP) files, and FBX, OBJ, STL, glTF (GLB) and 3DS files. The format is recognised from the file contents, not the extension.
Do I need AutoCAD or Revit?+
No. A browser is all you need, with nothing to install. It is read only, so it cannot edit or save the file again.
Does my file go to a server?+
No. Reading and drawing happen entirely inside this browser, so it also works for teams that may not send design files outside.
Which DWG versions open?+
R2000 up to the 2018 format and later. Save R12 and older files again in a newer version or as DXF. 3D solids are not drawn yet.
Do old .dwf files open?+
DWFx opens; classic DWF (W2D) does not yet. Ask the sender to publish it again as DWFx, DWG or PDF.
Do STEP assemblies open?+
Yes. The assembly tree on the left lists parts and subassemblies as they are nested; tick boxes switch them on and off and clicking a name selects that part. PMI (dimension and tolerance annotations) is not shown, and assemblies that reference other files load only the geometry inside this file.
Can I see IFC properties?+
Yes. Click an element to see the property sets and quantities from its type and from the element itself, grouped by set.
Does it work on a phone?+
Yes. One finger orbits or pans and two fingers zoom. The 3D tools are under the Tools button, and drawing layers under the layers button.
Which RVT versions open?+
It has been tested with sample files saved in versions 2022 to 2026. Older project files may not open. Families (.rfa) were tested in versions 2021 and 2022.
Can I get room areas or wall lengths into Excel?+
For RVT files, each table in the Model tab has a CSV button, and "Export all tables (XLSX)" downloads them all.
Where are notes and saved views kept?+
In this browser only, separately for each file. Nothing is written into the original file.

How to convert EML to PDF
Someone wants "that email as a PDF". All you have is a .eml file, maybe forwarded by a colleague or downloaded from Gmail, and no Outlook to open it with. Here is the quick way, the built-in ways, and what a PDF of an email does and does not keep.
How to open a DOCX file without Word
Two situations: you have a .docx and no Word, or Word refuses the file with "Word found unreadable content". Below are the free programs that open it, what each asks of you, and how to get the text out of a file none of them will open.
Why Hindi text and the ₹ sign break in a CSV file
You export a student or customer list as CSV, open it again, and every Hindi or Tamil name has become question marks or junk, and the ₹ sign has turned into symbols. The numbers are fine. Only the text broke.
