What this tool does
What you will see, and what you will not
The viewer reads the text stored inside the file and rebuilds it as paragraphs and tables. Merged table cells, centred and right-aligned lines, page breaks, headers, footnotes and text placed in frames are all picked up.
Drawings, pictures, font sizes and exact positions on the page are not reproduced, and vertical writing is shown horizontally. It is a way to read what the document says, not a copy of how it looks in Ichitaro.

The file may carry a folder path from its author’s computer
Ichitaro often writes the place a document was saved, such as a drive letter and folder names, into the file itself. Those folder names can include a person’s name or an organisation’s internal structure.
When the file has one, the document info card shows it with a warning. It is worth checking before you forward a .jtd file to someone else.
Where .jtd files come from
Ichitaro is a Japanese word processor by JustSystems. It is still common in Japanese local government, schools and some companies, so application forms and notices are sometimes published as .jtd.
Word and Google Docs cannot open these files, and Ichitaro has no Mac version. If you only need to read the document or move its text into Word, this viewer is enough. If the layout matters, ask the sender for a PDF.
Saving as Word, text or PDF
Save as Word creates a .docx with the same paragraphs, alignment and tables, ready to edit in Word, Pages or Google Docs. Save as text gives plain text that opens anywhere. Print / PDF uses your browser’s print dialogue, where you can choose to save a PDF.
None of these recreate the Ichitaro layout exactly. They carry the content across so you can keep working with it.
Common questions
Is my file uploaded?+
No. The file is read inside your browser, so documents from work or a public office do not go to any server.
Can I edit it and save it back as .jtd?+
No. The .jtd format is not published in enough detail to write it safely. Save as Word, edit there, and send it on as .docx or PDF.
It says the file is compressed.+
That is a .jttc file, which Ichitaro saves in a compressed form. It is not supported yet. Ask the sender for a .jtd or PDF, or save it as .jtd in Ichitaro.
Does it work on a Mac or a phone?+
Yes. It runs in the browser, so Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android all work, and nothing needs installing.
