Drop the PDF you want to split

Pick one file and its page count is read. The file is not sent anywhere.

How to split a PDF

  1. 1

    Choose a PDF

Drop the file and its page count is read. Nothing is transmitted at this step either.

  2. 2

    Write the range

Separate several ranges with commas, like "1-3, 7". To break out every page, pick the second mode.

  3. 3

    Download the results

The new files appear as a list. Save whichever ones you need.

How to write a page range

The basics

A single number means that one page. A hyphen makes a span, so "4-9" is pages 4 through 9, and leaving the end off, as in "10-", means page 10 through the end of the document.

Ranges joined by commas come out in the order you wrote them. "5, 1-2" puts page 5 first and pages 1 and 2 after it.

Saving each range separately

Turn on "save each range as its own file" and you get one file per comma-separated range. It is the quick way to break a report into chapters.

Leave it off and every range is combined into a single file.

The original is not changed

Splitting copies pages out of the original into new files. The PDF you selected is untouched, so you can change the range and try again as often as you like.

Common questions

Does splitting reduce the quality?+

No. The original page data is carried straight over. Text stays selectable and searchable, and images keep their full resolution.

Are all the single pages saved at once?+

Browsers usually block an attempt to save many files in one go, so the results are shown as a list and you download the ones you want.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?+

A file with an open password cannot be read, so it cannot be processed. Remove the password first and try again.

Will it handle a very long document?+

Yes. Note that splitting every page creates one file per page, which takes time and memory on a document of several hundred pages. Working through it in ranges is steadier.

How are the result files named?+

The original name gets the range or page number appended. You can rename a file in the browser as you save it.
